Watch that space!

I'd like for this to become a constant segment depending on both local talent and how much I get to seek it.

But tonight I saw an amazing up-and-coming band from Auckland called Popstrangers. They're the first act I've seen in a long time that really has their shit together. They're talented, organised, genuine, and boy do they have a drummer in Elliot Rawson. This dude was not only handling inventive and complicated rhythms, but seemed to do what good drummer should: drive the band.

They were a mix of raw post-punk and alternative rock with hints of psychedelia. Wellington is full of bands that seem flitter around for a few months before fading and morphing into something new, and this shows on stage. The opposite is equally visible and Popstrangers looked to be in it for the long haul. They were tight and had obviously spent hours practicing and refining their songs.

I hope they certainly do keep going. With another year or so of touring and writing, these guys could do wonders. I certainly hope to see more of them. Watch that space!
